According to the Eunice Police Department, the charges stem from an incident involving a chase with Mamou Police Chief Brent Zackery on April 12, 2022.

That pursuit led officers through Evangeline Parish. When the vehicle reached St. Landry Parish, one person allegedly got out of the vehicle and fired a gun. That shooter, alleged to be Jones, began shooting at Chief Zackery, who was not hit by the bullet, and no other injuries were reported at the time.
