Eunice Motorcyclist Dies in Valentine’s Day Crash

75-year-old Melvin Granger of Eunice is dead after his 2006 Honda Goldwing trike motorcycle crashed into a 1997 Ford Escort on Valentine's Day.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says it happened on US Hwy 190 near LA Hwy 367 in St. Landry Parish shortly after 11:30 AM. Trooper Gossen says Granger crashed into the car, which was stopped in the northbound lane of LA 367. That caused Granger to be ejected from his trike.

Granger, despite wearing a DOT-approved safety helmet, died several days later at a local hospital.

The other driver was properly restrained and was uninjured.

Troopers continue to investigate as routine toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis. Impairment is not suspected, though.
