Fatal Crash In Iberia Parish Being Investigated
There was a death because of a two-car crash on Louisiana Highway 674 in the early evening hours of Monday, September 12.
Louisiana State Police Troop I Spokesman Trooper Thomas Gossen says that the fatal crash took the life of 58-year-old Somvang Sinsayarath from New Iberia.
Gossen says the woman was traveling on Highway 674, and she lost control of her car near the area of Blanchard Road. When that happened, the vehicle ended up over the center line of the highway. Sinsayarath's car slammed into another vehicle, and the woman died at the scene. At this time, Gossen says they don't know what caused Sinsayarath's car to go over the line.
As is usual in a fatal crash, routine toxicology tests are being run on both drivers. Gossen adds that both the drivers, and a passenger in the vehicle that was hit, were all buckled up. Both the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries at an area hospital.
This crash happened at around 5 o'clock Monday evening.
Gossen says that your best chance of survival in a crash is to be wearing your seat belt, and each person in a vehicle in Louisiana must be buckled up. There are no exceptions to this law.
Gossen adds that you should avoid any kind of distractions while driving like talking on your phone, playing with your phone, using any kind of social media or texting on your phone, playing with the radio, eating food or doing any other behavior that takes your mind away from driving.
