Lafayette firefighters were called out to a fire at a vacant house on Garfield Street last night.

Several neighbors reported the fire in the 500 block of Garfield Street.

Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the roof of the house.  Crews were able to the get the fire under control in 20 minutes.

There was heavy fire damage to the exterior and roof of the house, but thankfully no other homes on the block sustained damage.

The home was vacant, and fire spokesman Alton Trahan says they are not sure when the last time someone occupied the house.

Fire investigators says the fire started on the porch, but the cause of the fire is still investigation.

This is the third fire in twenty-four hours that firefighters had to battle.
