Festival de Mardi Gras in Lafayette Announces New Security Measures
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Mardi Gras celebrations have started across much of South Louisiana, and organizers for Le Festival de Mardi Gras in Lafayette have announced new security measures for those attending in 2026.
For years, families have flocked to Cajun Field during Mardi Gras to take in the sights and sounds of the festival, and now it will be a bit safer
Like many other festivals and gatherings across the country, Le Festival de Mardi Gras is adding security measures to ensure the grounds are safe for all who attend. According to their social media post, you may notice a few changes upon arrival.
As families arrive at the carnival area at Cajun Field, they will be greeted with new state-of-the-art metal detectors. These devices at the entry points will ensure that no one can bring a weapon onto the grounds where the fair and concerts are, and there's more.
In addition to the metal detectors on the grounds, Le Festival de Mardi Gras in Lafayette has announced that only clear bags will be permitted, and that those 16 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult.
All of these security measures were implemented in 2026 to ensure everyone's safety at Cajun Field during Mardi Gras and to allow families and guests to enjoy their experience at the carnival.
Since these additions are new to the fairgrounds this year, I encourage you to share this with others on social media so they aren't shocked upon arrival. For some, there's nothing worse than having to turn around to bring a purse or bag back to your vehicle because it is not permitted.
Le Festival de Mardi Gras à Lafayette starts on February 13 and goes through Mardi Gras (Feb 17th), and it is once again happening in the shadows of Cajun Field in Lafayette. Remember, Cajun Field is also a great place to catch all the Mardi Gras parades in Lafayette, as they all end there.
