The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced the La. 182 Atchafalaya River Bridge in St Mary Parish will be closed until 2025.

La. 182 Atchafalaya River Bridge in St. Mary Parish Closing

Starting Monday, May 22, work will begin on a $25,969,337.50 rehabilitation project on the La. 182 bridge over the Atchafalaya River in St. Mary Parish.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic, including emergency vehicles, for the next two years beginning May 23.

The detour route for the closure will be U.S. 90, which is parallel to the La. 182 Atchafalaya River Bridge.

This restoration project will start at the Berwick side of the bridge and end at the Morgan City side.

According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the restoration project consists of "cleaning, painting, bridge repair, and related work."

The restoration work will happen Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., however, nighttime and weekend work is expected.
