A Lafayette City Police officer was on patrol early this morning near the intersection of East Simcoe and 8th Streets when he hear a number of gunshots. Moments later the officer observed a car speeding away and gave pursuit. The vehicle finally stopped at the intersection of Sonny and Roy Streets and two men ran from the car. After a short chase both suspects were caught and police recovered a shotgun and a handgun.

Later police were notified that a 26 year old man had been admitted to a local hospital with a gunshot wound in his left leg. The victim is listed in stable condition.

23 year old Elijah Jones of Lafayette was charged with attempted 2nd degree murder and flight from an officer. 22 year old Miles Boudreaux of Lafayette was charged with attempted 2nd degree murder, illegal carrying of a firearm and resisting arrest.

The shooting remains under investigation.
