Last Of Legendary Tuskeegee Airmen Passes Away At 96
Learning history from a 12 year old is an interesting experience. A few months ago, my grandson wanted to watch a movie called "Red Tails." I'd never heard of it. The movie, starring Terrance Howard, Gerald McRainey, Cuba Gooding, Jr, and Ne-Yo, chronicles the exploits of the legendary Tuskeegee Airmen. They overcame racial bias and became unsung heroes in world war II. They flew 1578 combat missions, and 179 bomber escort missions. They only lost a total of 27 bombers. Fox 29 reports, the last of their ranks has passed away. Robert T. McDaniel was McDaniel was valedictorian of his class at I.M. Terrell High in 1940. McDaniel was drafted 3 years later. He earned multiple degrees, and served as an elementary school principal for 37 years. Robert T. McDaniel was 96.
