Lebesque Road Shooting Victims Identified, Died Of Apparent Murder-Suicide
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- The victims of Wednesday night's shooting on Lebesque Road have been identified, and they evidently died from an apparent murder-suicide, according to information released by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office.
According to Capt. Kip Judice, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, the victims were identified as 52-year-old Joseph Babineaux and 52-year-old Judith Babineaux.
Though the scene is still being processed, Judice said enough forensics evidence was gathered to determine that Judith Babineaux was shot first, while Joseph Babineaux died from a self-inflicted gunshot. A gun believed to have belonged to Joseph Babineaux was found near the bodies, Judice said.
The married couple lived in the home with at least two other people, Judice said. One of the children reported the shooting to police after finding their bodies in the front of the home. There was no sign that someone broke into the home, Judice said, and family members said nothing was missing from inside the house.
The case remains under investigation.
