Local Corrections Officials Sentenced To Prison
Several Acadiana corrections officials are going to prison. AP reports, U.S. District Judge Donald E. Walter handed down multi year sentences to former Iberia Parish Sheriff's Lt. colonel Gerald Savoy, former Warden Wesley Hayes, and former assistant Jesse Hayes. They were convicted of civil rights violations in the beating of an inmate. Savoy was sentenced to 7 years, 3 months. The Hayes brothers were sentenced to 2 years each. A total of 10 individuals have been sentenced resulting from an investigation into operations of the Iberia Parish jail.
