Louisiana is known as 'Sportsman's Paradise', and our prominent hunting seasons are definitely a key reason.

However, there are replacement costs for wild game, such as deer, that are unlawfully taken. The state imposes fines and fees on those who steal or hunt animals using illegal methods or without a license. The standard restitution cost of a deer is just under $2,000 but can vary depending on age and size.

Louisiana Man Chokes Deer To Death In Disturbing Video

Enforcement agents from The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries arrested a man for allegedly violating wildlife guidelines in Caldwell Parish. Authorities say that Taryn J. Varnell, 18, of Grayson, LA took a spotted fawn and was later arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals.

A video of Varnell choking a fawn to death surfaced online around July 9th, 2024. LDWF officials contacted him at his home, where he admitted that he was, in fact, the person in the video harming the animal.

According to Myarklamiss.com, authorities there could be time and money owned for Varnell's actions. He may face $1,624 for the replacement value of the deer he took.

Varnell was booked into the Caldwell Correctional Center on August 21, 2024.

To Report A Hunting Violation In Louisiana:

All wildlife violations should be reported to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Enforcement agents for LDWF are responsible for performing any investigation necessary and imposing penalties on violators.

LDWF hopes that the costs and penalties will continue to act as a deterrent and make people think twice before hunting without a license, exceeding bag limits, hunting out of season, or using illegal methods to hunt wild game in Louisiana.
