Louisiana Mardi Gras Parade Canceled Due to Increase in Crime
Mardi Gras season is here in Louisiana, and you can feel the excitement in most communities. However, one small south Louisiana town will not have a parade in 2025.
Smaller communities count on Mardi Gras when it comes to bringing revenue to their town or village, but a small town will not be so fortunate this year due to the increase in crime in the community and construction.
KLFY News 10 reports that the Town of Baldwin has canceled its annual Mardi Gras parade in 2025 due to the amount of crime in the area, and also because of the amount of construction leading into the town in St. Mary Parish.
Baldwin Police Chief Anthony Gibson announced this decision on Wednesday, January 8th, and as you would expect, social media has been mixed about it.
KLFY reports that police in Baldwin have responded to two separate shootings in the last few days, which left several vehicles damaged and three people injured.
If there are any future updates surrounding Mardi Gras in Baldwin, we will share them here and on this station's mobile app.
