
Louisiana State Police Lieutenant Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge
Louisiana State Police officials have announced that a state trooper, who was off-duty at the time, was arrested in Baton Rouge on a domestic violence charge.
According to spokesperson Lieutenant Jared Sandifer with the Public Affairs Section of Louisiana State Police says that a trooper who works at State Police headquarters in Baton Rouge was arrested outside of a home in Baton Rouge.
What Charged Was The Trooper Arrested On?
Sandifer says that 40-year-old Lieutenant James Jefferson III of Baton Rouge was arrested on the following charge:
LRS 14:35.3.I – Domestic abuse battery (w/ child endangerment). The arrest followed an incident at a home at around 11:30 in the evening on Wednesday, February 5.
The lieutenant, who is currently assigned to State Police Headquarters in Baton Rouge, has been a trooper since 2007.
What Happens After This Arrest?
Sandifer says that while Jefferson is awaiting the different aspects of moving through the justice system, he is currently on administrative leave.
As is standard practice, all of the law enforcement property belonging to the State Police has been turned over to the agency while Jefferson waits for the conclusion of not only the criminal process but the administration process as well.
Jefferson was booked into the East Baton Parish Prison on the charge listed above.
