Louisiana State Trooper Arrested for 2nd DWI This Year
BATON ROUGE, La. (KPEL News) - A Louisiana State Trooper has been arrested and charged with driving while under the influence early this morning, state police have confirmed.
He was caught after being observed crossing the divider line on Interstate 110 in East Baton Rouge Parish by another trooper.
Isaiah Gilbert, 28, of Hammond was off-duty at the time he was pulled over. He has been on leave following a separate incident from March of this year, LSP said in a statement. At the time, he was arrested for 1st Offense Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Operation.
During this morning's incident, Gilbert gave a breath sample at Troop A, and his breath registered above the legal limit. He was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail
He faces the following charges:
• Improper Lane Usage
• Driving While Intoxicated (2nd Offense)
• Driving While Under Suspension for Certain Offenses
• Simple Damage to Property
• Open Container.
Gilbert remains on leave, LSP said, with "all law enforcement property previously recovered pending the conclusion of criminal and administrative investigations."
Incident in March
The previous incident that put Gilbert on leave in March came after his 2013 Chevrolet Cruze crashed on I-55 at I-12 in Tangipahoa Parish on the evening of March 10. According to the state police investigation, he was southbound on I-55 when his vehicle traveled off the road to the left and hit a sign.
He has been employed by LSP since 2021 and was previously part of the patrol division.
