Man Found Dead in Car in St. Martinville Identified

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Major Ginny Higgins says investigators believe the two victims were driving in a 4-door black Honda Civic from New Iberia to St. Martinville on Hwy. 31, while being followed by a second vehicle. It was in the 7300 block of Hwy. 31 that occupants in the second vehicle allegedly shot at the victims.

Rusty Joseph Allen remains in critical condition.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's deputies have identified the man found dead in a car on Hwy 31 in St. Martinville Saturday night.

According to deputies, 36-year-old Demarcus Joseph Fontenot of New Iberia died due to multiple gunshot wounds.

There was another man in the car, 39-year-old Rusty Joseph Allen, who also was shot multiple times. He was taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition. .

Deputies received a call from a passing driver around 8:15pm. The car was found on the highway near the St. Martin and Iberia Parish line.

No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing.
