GRAMERCY, La. (AP) — A New Orleans man has died after an early Saturday crash on Interstate 10 in St. James Parish.

Troopers say 56-year-old Kenneth Nolting's 1996 Nissan Altima ran up against the cable barrier protecting the median at about 1:30 a.m., ran along it for nearly half a mile, and crossed over into westbound traffic after reaching a gap.

There, Nolting's car hit a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 26-year-old Blerond Oda of Merrillville, Indiana. It then spun into a 2014 International box truck driven by 43-year-old James Spears of Baton Rouge.

Despite wearing a seatbelt, Nolting died from injuries. A toxicology sample is pending.

Oda was injured and taken to Interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans where he remained hospitalized Saturday. Spears was not injured.
