Harahan's police chief says the department's patrol commander has resigned and another officer is on leave in an investigation of how the agency handles federal grants.

Police Chief Jacob "Mac" Dickinson told The Times-Picayune that the FBI is investigating grant management under the administration of Peter Dale. Dale left office on Dec. 31 when his term expired.

Harahan Mayor Vinny Mosca said the federal inquiry grew out of an administrative review he ordered upon taking office Jan. 1. Mosca said he hired a retired state trooper to examine city government and told Dickinson to review the police department.

Mosca said the review involves questions about $80,000 in grant money.
