Overnight Fire Claims Family’s Dog & Vehicle
Around midnight today, a man woke up to a fire happening in his neighbor's backyard in the 300 block of W. Farrel Road. Fortunately, he was able to alert the family inside the home and they were able to get out safely. But, their pet dog did not make it out.
Lafayette Fire Chief Robert Benoit says the fire began inside the storage building adjacent to the carport. He says thirty firefighters battled the two-alarm fire for over an hour before getting it under control.
The home sustained heavy fire damage, as did the carport and the vehicle under it.
The dog was inside the storage building because of the cold weather.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
