Pedestrian Deaths Reported In Evangeline, St. Landry
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — State police are investigating separate accidents that killed two pedestrians.
The first happened around 5 a.m. Friday in Evangeline Parish. State police say 64-year-old Keith Stakes of Eunice was walking in the southbound lane of Louisiana Highway 374 when he was hit by a pickup truck. He died at a hospital.
The second pedestrian fatality happened Friday night. The report says 50-year-old Elvina Stermer of Krotz Springs was standing in the westbound travel lane of U.S. Highway 190, when she was struck by a Honda Odyssey. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A release from Louisiana State Police Troop I said Saturday that toxicology test results were pending for both victims. In each case, the drivers involved were found not to be impaired.
