Qualifying For Louisiana’s Fall Election Begins Tuesday

Qualifying for Louisiana's October 12th election begins tomorrow. That means candidates from all across the state will be converging upon their local Clerk of Court's Office to officially toss their name into the ring for consideration by we, the people.

Naturally, much of Louisiana's political spotlight will be focused on the Governor's race. Three particular candidates, incumbent John Bel Edwards, Congressman Ralph Abraham, and businessman Eddie Rispone have already gone on the offensive in their campaigns. Speculation is that others will join the fray before the qualification deadline arrives August 8th.

Other statewide posts that will be decided this fall include a rather interesting contest for State Insurance Commissioner. Incumbent Jim Donelon is expected to face a challenge from Tim Temple for that job. Some political analysts call this race "the most intriguing" outside of the race for Governor.

Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain is expected to face at least two challengers in his quest for re-election. The two challengers, both Democrats, are Margee Green and Charlie Greer.

As of now, there do not appear to be any challenges on the horizon for Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser or Attorney General Jeff Landry. However, qualifying is open until Friday afternoon we can't rule out a possible challenge for either of those offices.

Local candidates will also be letting their political aspirations be known during the qualifying period. We will have a complete list of candidates on both the statewide and local level once the qualification period has closed.
