UPDATE: Suspended Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope was in court today for sentencing after his October 2018 conviction on 4 of 7 felony counts of malfeasance and perjury, which goes back to Pope's public records dispute with the former Independent newspaper.

According to KADN, Lafayette District Court Judge David Smith delayed Pope's sentencing until April. He faces up to five years for each count.

Just hours after both sides in the trial of Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope rested their case, jurors returned a guilty verdict on four counts. Our news partners at KATC report Pope was convicted of one felony count of perjury and three counts of malfeasance in office. He was acquitted on three additional counts.
