ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KPEL News) - One person has died following a Homecoming night shooting at St. Martinville High School and a suspect appears to be in custody, according to multiple reports out on Friday night.

The shooting, which occurred just before the game against Erath was set to start, forced authorities to shut down the game and send everyone home.

KLFY is reporting this evening that St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin has confirmed the victim has died. Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police are helping with the search for the suspect.

St. Martinville Police confirm that there was a shooting at the St. Martinville High School homecoming game, Friday night.

According to KLFY News 10, one person was injured in the shooting as adults and kids came together to celebrate homecoming on Friday evening.

According to several posts on social media, there was chaos at the stadium as gunshots rang out.

Police have identified a suspect in the shooting.
