Shreveport HS Student Arrested for Bringing Gun to School
A Southwood High School student was arrested earlier today after an investigation revealed he had brought a loaded gun to school, according to the official press release from Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator.
The official statement divulged that an unnamed 17-year old student was involved in an altercation with another student sometime around noon. After school officials broke up the fight, an investigation and subsequent search reveled a loaded 9 millimeter handgun in the student's backpack.
The student was placed under arrest immediately by Southwood's Student Resource Officer Sheriff’s Cpl. Calvin Williams. He was taken to the Caddo Juvenile Detention facility. Currently, he is being charged with possession of a firearm on school property and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
This is the latest in a series of scary moments at our area schools, including a bomb threat that shut down Youree Middle School last month. According to KTBS, the threat came from a student participating in a virtual classroom environment via Zoom. That incident is currently still under investigation.
