Authorities say a Shreveport woman whose car broke down on Interstate 20 was struck and killed when she got out of her vehicle.

Police say 34-year-old Shannon L. Parker died in the accident Saturday about 5:50 p.m.

Parker and her passenger, 26-year-old David Stepp, also of Shreveport, had been westbound on Interstate 20 in a 1996 Ford Escort when the vehicle had a mechanical failure, blocking the right lane.

The two left the car and while Stepp pushed the disabled vehicle out of the roadway, Parker walked into the westbound lanes of the busy highway. There, she was struck by a 2010 Dodge Ram pickup.
