There is now a new member of the St. Landry Parish School Board.

The new interim replacement for former board member Quincy Richard Sr. is Stephen Woods who was sworn in at the school board's meeting last night.

Richard had appealed his removal, but the appellate court dismissed his challenge Tuesday of this week.

While Woods was chosen to replace Richard in September, he was not allowed to be shown in until the appeals court had made thier ruling on Richard's case. They based their decision to wait after the board's attorney Gerard Caswell told them it was the right move.

State Judge James A. Doherty's ruling was that Richard needed to be immediately dismissed by his seat because he did not wait until the required 15 years to seek public office after felony convictions.
