A Sunset man is now behind bars for rape and attempted murder in connection to a violent incident that allegedly occurred at his home near I-49.

Thirty-one-year-old Elizer Lloret was arrested by police in Conway, S.C. and extradited back to St, Landry Parish for alleged rape of a female victim that occurred on May 14, 2017.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux reported the victim met the suspect where she worked and was told that one of the suspect's friends took her cell phone which was then missing. \

She followed Lloret to a camper in Sunset where she said she was hit over the head until she was unconscious then raped.

The victim awoke hours later in the camper covered in blood. She immediately sought medical attention at a local hospital.

She had suffered a skull fracture and had subdural hemorrhaging. The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner analyzed the woman and advised there was evidence of a sexual assault. A medical kit was then completed.

The suspect had fled the scene--and apparently the state--by the time the victim sought medical attention.

Lloret was entered into a national crime database which led to his arrest in South Carolina.

Lloret was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on charges including first-degree rape and attempted second-degree murder. His bond was set at $350,000
