The Lafayette Police Department along with officers from the U.S. Marshals service were able to arrest 17-year-old Jaylan Ben, the person they allege was responsible for a shooting that happened Saturday.

Lafayette Police Department Spokesman Sergeant Wayne Griffin says in a press release the man was arrested during a routine traffic stop.

Ben has been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a charge of Attempted Second Degree Murder along with Illegal Discharge of a Firearm.

Griffin says all of this started Saturday just before noon when police were called out to the 1300 block of West Willow to deal with a shooting incident.

The two people in the car were arguing with each other, when they both decided they were going to shoot at each other. They were both gone when police got to the scene, but then more things happened later Saturday.

While this first incident was being investigated, another 911 call came in about a shooting that happened in the 300 block of Orchid Street with one of the two people who had been shooting at each other inside the car earlier in the day.
