PORT BARRE, La. (KPEL) -- Louisiana State Police has arrested the person believed to be responsible for the hit-and-run death of a 58-year-old Port Barre woman.

Trooper Stephen Hammons says Betty Noel was riding her bicycle Saturday evening on Hwy. 742 when she was hit by a passing car traveling in the same direction.

Hammons says State Police received information from police in Port Barre "about a vehicle suspected to have been involved in the fatal hit-and-run crash."

Troopers identified the vehicle in question as a 2008 GMC Sierra. Hammons says investigators discovered evidence linking the truck to the crash.

30-year-old Corey Doucet was arrested and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on charges of felony hit-and-run, negligent homicide, and obstruction of justice.
