Third DWI for Lake Charles Woman
State Police are telling KPEL News that a woman could be in big trouble after her latest traffic stop. Shortly before 6pm Thursday, 32-year-old Desireah Annette Chapman of Lake Charles was stopped on Highway 3059 was pulled over after a trooper noticed her commit a traffic violation. After she did poorly on a field sobriety test, police say that they placed her under arrest.
Chapman was charged with her third offense of DWI and was driving on a suspended license because of a previous DWI, incurred just last month. Her charges include not only the DWI charge, but also driving under suspension and a lane change violation. She was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
Chapman faces up to 5 and a half years in prison and a $2,000 fine if she is convicted of the charges against her.
Chapman's first DWI offense took place in late November when she was stopped and charged with DWI with a 6-year-old child in the car.
