Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 92 and Louisiana Highway 13 in Acadia Parish, and two Abbeville women died as a result of the crash.

According to a press release from Louisiana State Police Spokesman Derek Senegal, 40-year-old Nicole Marie Susak failed to yield at the intersection. She was not wearing a seat belt, and died at the scene. Her passenger, 54-year-old Mary Lemaire, was also not wearing a seat belt. Lemaire was taken to a hospital, but she later died from injuries from the crash.

Senegal says that the two people in the other vehicle were taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Louisiana State Police Troop I makes up the eight-parish area of Acadiana. Senegal says that so far this year, there have been fifteen fatal crashes. He adds that eighteen people have died in these crashes.

According to the report, they believe Susak's vehicle was hit by the other vehicle, who's driver failed to stop at a stop sign on Highway 92. Routine toxicology tests will be run on both drivers. Officials say they are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
