Two children are dead after a crash in Breaux Bridge at the intersection of Salt Mine Highway and Sawmill Highway Friday night.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Major Ginny Higgins says in a press release they do not know why 47-year-old Paula Thibeaux failed to stop at the stop sign at that intersection.

Two young children, 11-year-old Keshon Batiste and 12-year-old Trayvon Alexander, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Batiste and Alexander were in the back of the vehicle along with two other juveniles that were taken to a hospital for treatment. Thibeaux is also receiving treatment at a hospital.

The vehicle they were in ended up going into a ditch then it hit a tree.

The investigation into what happened is ongoing at this time according to Higgins.
