Lafayette Police said witnesses of an armed robbery and shooting that occurred last Tuesday evening have given investigators a description of the suspect.

On May 5th, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to the 200 block of Verot School Road in reference to an armed robbery where the victim was not only robbed, but also shot.

According to police spokesperson Nicole Benoit, witnesses described the subject as a black male with a light complexion, a thin build and short hair. The suspect was apparently wearing a gray shirt and dark pants when witnesses saw him flee the scene of the shooting and hide at a nearby convenience store. He was spotted holding a pistol up until the time he entered  a red sport utility vehicle, or van, serving as the getaway vehicle.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Detectives are asking anyone with any information to call the Lafayette Police Department of Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
