82-year-old Robert McCarty of Caldwell, Texas - an 18-wheeler driver - was killed earlier today in a crash involving four 18-wheelers on I-10 West before the Grosse Tete exit.

All lanes are open but traffic has been backed up for miles, all the way into Baton Rouge.

State Police say it started after McCarty and another 18-wheeler driver pulled on the shoulder of I-10 westbound following a crash between them. Investigators say an 18-wheeler being driven by 35-year-old Datril Dunbar of Sebring, Florida, then struck the back of another 18-wheeler, then struck both stopped tractor-trailers.

McCarty, who was outside of his vehicle on the shoulder, was then hit, causing his fatal injuries.

State Police say the other drivers received minor injuries.

This crash remains under investigation, and charges may be pending.
