Walgreens Is Closing More Stores—Here’s What’s Shutting Down in Louisiana
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) – A major retail and pharmacy brand is working on another round of store closures, and Louisiana will see a couple of stores close as part of the new wave.
Walgreens, which has been the subject of numerous closures in recent years—largely due to retail theft in certain major urban areas—announced that it would be closing roughly 1,200 stores over the next three years, with 500 of those closures coming in 2025.

Why Is Walgreens Closing So Many Stores?
In a public statement, Walgreens said it was seeing losses, with several stores "not currently contributing to our long-term strategy," Tim Wentworth, Chief Executive Officer, Walgreens Boots Alliance, said.
He went on to explain how the company would be moving forward.
“Our financial results in the fiscal fourth quarter and full year 2024 reflected our disciplined execution on cost management, working capital initiatives and capex reduction," Wentworth explained. "In fiscal 2025, we are focusing on stabilizing the retail pharmacy by optimizing our footprint, controlling operating costs, improving cash flow, and continuing to address reimbursement models to support dispensing margins and preserve patient access for the future."
In short: There are some tough times coming, but the company has a plan to get back on track.
What Louisiana Stores Are Closing?
Earlier this year, we learned of one of the closing stores when the Walgreens on Moss Street in Lafayette closed, effective March 20. The store alerted customers via text.
“The Walgreens at 3747 MOSS ST, LAFAYETTE will permanently close on 03/20/2025," that text message read. "It will be operating as usual until then. Our other pharmacies are ready to help you, including nearby at 920 W GLORIA SWITCH RD, LAFAYETTE. For more info about how this closure affects your prescriptions, please visit wlgrn.com/SUSDRN.”
In all, two stores in Louisiana are closing as part of the current wave of shuttering stores:
- 3747 Moss St, Lafayette, LA 70507
- 2810 Louisville Ave, Monroe, LA 71201
The website GoBankingRates has provided a full list of stores that have closed so far, which includes both of the stores referenced above.
