On July 10, 2019, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint at the 600 block of Highway 749 in Opelousas in reference to a man being shot.

According to reports, the victim sustained a gunshot to the leg and was transported to an area hospital.

Detectives recovered twelve .40 caliber casings from the roadway in close proximity of the address and observed several bullet holes in a window and an inside wall of the home.

Detectives interviewed the victim who stated that he and two other people were standing outside of their residence when a Jeep pulled up and several individuals exited the vehicle and began shooting in their direction.

As the victim attempted to run inside the residence, he was shot in the lower left leg.  A vehicle that was parked at the residence was also struck by a bullet.

A tip from St. Landry Crime Stoppers was instrumental in solving this crime by naming the individuals involved.

Detectives using the tip information obtained a photo lineup and Adrian Powell was identified as the suspect who shot the victim.
