Wife Robbed While Walking With Husband In New Iberia

Police in New Iberia are investigating the armed robbery of a couple who were simply walking on the sidewalk.

According to Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal, the couple was walking along the sidewalk on Eden Street Friday when they were approached by a black male who was armed with a handgun.

The suspect took the 67-year-old woman's purse and then allegedly fired two or three shots into the air before leaving the scene in a brown Toyota Camry or Avalon, the couple told police.

Neither the husband nor the wife were injured during the incident.
