A homeless woman has been sentenced for killing her boyfriend in 2010. Debra Hewitt will spend the rest of her life behind bars after a Lafayette Parish jury found her guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder. The jury deliberated for less than two hours.

She and John Romine were charged after 47-year-old Dwayne Ball's decomposing body was found in Lafayette five to six weeks after his death. Prosecutors say Ball was stabbed, choked and beaten with Hewitt's prosthetic leg.

Romine will stand trial next month on the same charge.
