LAFAYETTE, LA – A tragic domestic dispute inside a moving vehicle escalated into a fatal shooting on Johnston Street on Sunday, leaving two adults dead and a child injured.

According to Lafayette Police, the incident occurred in the 2300 block of Johnston Street. Shentell Brown, 47, of New Iberia, was driving a white SUV southbound with her husband, Kevin Brown, 60, in the passenger seat and two children in the back seat. Authorities say a verbal altercation between the couple turned violent when Kevin Brown produced a firearm and shot Shentell Brown multiple times, killing her.

After fatally wounding his wife, Kevin Brown turned the weapon on himself. He was later transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The two children in the back seat, whose ages have not been disclosed, attempted to flee the vehicle during the incident. One child successfully flagged down a passing motorist and was transported to the Lafayette Police Department. Sadly, the other child was struck by a passing vehicle while exiting the SUV. The child sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Police have confirmed that the incident was an isolated domestic dispute and is under active investigation. Detectives are working to gather more details about the moments leading up to the tragic shooting.

Johnston Street remained partially closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation, but the roadway has since reopened.
