An Abbeville man was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail after being arrested for kidnapping and rape.

Abbeville Police Spokesman Lt. David Hardy told our news partner, KATC, 50-year-old Kevin Moore abducted his victim as she was walking home along Martin Luther King Drive Monday night. He then took her to an abandoned home nearby on Vernon Street.

Moore then allegedly raped the woman, holding her captive by using a weapon yet to be identified by police.

The woman eventually called 911 from her cell phone, but was not able to report what was happening. Dispatchers were able to hear what was going on in the background between Moore and his victim.

Police closed in on the abandoned house by using the victim's cell phone signal to identify her general vicinity. Meanwhile, she was able to escape from the house through a window.

Moore was arrested and booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on charges of second-degree kidnapping, forcible rape and false imprisonment. His bond was set at $250,000.
