The suspect wanted in connection with a deadly Abbeville shooting is now in custody.

According to Lt. Jonathan Touchet of the Abbeville Police Department, Avoyelles Parish law enforcement arrested Gary Turner, Jr., on Tuesday. Turner is accused of shooting and killing Freddy Gomezsoto during an incident on March 18 near the intersection of Clover Street and North Bailey Street. Gomezsoto died from his injuries in the hospital 12 days later.

Touchet says officers received credible tips about Turner's location, which led them to a house in Cottonport. Police officers from Cottonport and Moreauville and deputies from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office went to the home and discovered Turner was there and was armed with a handgun.

The law enforcement officers surrounded the home, leading to a three-hour standoff with Turner. Turner eventually surrendered and was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on a warrant out of Vermilion Parish.

Abbeville police picked up Turner on Wednesday and returned him to Vermilion Parish, where he is facing a second-degree murder charge.
