Arrest Made In Iberia Parish Sexual Assault Case

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says they have arrested a man on a charge of forcible rape after an investigation that began Sunday, August 3.

The Sex Crime Unit investigated allegations of sexual assault on a woman that happened on Bayard Street in New Iberia.  Detectives arrested 25-year-old Johnathon Lastrapes of New Iberia for forcible rape.

Police say the suspect and victim were acquaintances.

Lastrapes was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail, and his bond has been set at $250,000.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing.
