CECILIA, La. (KPEL News) - A St. Martin Parish man has been arrested after being caught with a number of powerful narcotics, including black tar heroin and suspected fentanyl.

The arrest came after a joint investigation between the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Task Force and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit.

Law enforcement was looking into illegal narcotics activity between Cecilia and Lafayette, narrowing their focus on a residence in the 1000 block of Domingue Street in Cecilia. When they executed a search warrant, they found a lot of illegal drugs, including:

• 2,250 Dosage Units of Suspected MDMA

• 558 Grams of Suspected Crystal Methamphetamine

• 310 Grams of Suspected Cocaine HCL

• 29 Grams of Suspected Heroin 30 Grams of Suspected Black Tar Heroin

• 80 Dosage Units of Oxycodone Hydrochloride (Suspected to Be Counterfeit Pressed Fentanyl)

• 120 ML of Promethazine

They also found over $54,000 as well as materials needed for packaging and distributing the drugs.

Authorities arrested Clarence Smith, 39, of Cecilia, and he has been arrested on a number of serious charges:

• Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I CDS (MDMA)

• Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I CDS (Heroin)

• Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I CDS (Black Tar Heroin)

• Possession of Schedule I CDS (Marijuana)

• Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II CDS (Crystal Methamphetamine)

• Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II CDS (Cocaine)

• Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II CDS (Oxycodone)

• Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule V CDS (Promethazine)

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Transactions Involving Proceeds From Drug Offenses
