Iberia Medical Center has announced that individuals wanting to be screened for the coronavirus may do so at a drive-thru screening event planned for Wednesday. The screenings will take place at North Lewis Elementary school beginning at 9 am. The event is scheduled to last until Noon.

The screening process will be limited to those that have displayed certain symptoms that have been associated with the coronavirus. Among those symptoms is a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher and respiratory symptoms. Individuals who are at risk, including health care providers, older citizens, people with underlying medical concerns, pregnant women, and those living in communal situations will be considered for the screening as well.

In order to be screened, you will first be asked a series of questions. Based on the answers that you give you might be asked to submit to a nasal swab. That swab will first be tested for influenza. If that comes back negative and meets the criteria the swab will then be forwarded for testing for COVID-19.

If you're still not sure whether or not you need to be screened you may call the pre-screening lines at 337.374.7420 or 337.374.7421 between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. You will then speak with an Iberia Medical Center clinical professional to determine if the screening event is appropriate for your situation.
