Friday’s Mega Millions: Big Wins for Texas Lottery Players
A few years back the Texas Lottery told us that Mega Millions, the game, would be making adjustments in the structure of how the game is played. That change in structure has meant some huge wins in Texas. Players in San Antonio, Lubbock, and Sugar Land have all claimed multi-million dollar prizes since the adjustment.
The reason for the change was to give more players more chances at bigger jackpots. I have been following the Texas Lottery, Mega Millions, Powerball, and countless other state lotteries and it's that top prize number that motivates people to play. I know that no one would be disappointed with a $20 million win on a lottery game but it is interesting to see how many played for $20 million versus how many will play for $100 million.
Friday night, February 7, 2025, the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game was on the line for a jackpot of $94 million for the annuitized jackpot or $42.9 million for the cash payout. Here is how the drawing unfolded.
People often ask if I stay up and watch all these drawings live, and the answer is no. The drawings are "meaningless" without the winner data that our sources at Texas Lottery and Mega Millions provide us in the hours after the ping pong balls have settled into their respective places.
Speaking of those sources, my friend at Mega Millions confirmed what our source at Texas Lottery suggested, no big winner last night. So, the $94 million will grow to an estimated annuitized $113 million for Tuesday's game. The Michigan Lottery confirmed they sold a Match 5 Million winner. So that was the game's largest payout on Friday.
The Texas Lottery did confirm that over 32,500 tickets sold in Texas earned money back for the player. About 40% of those winning tickets opted for the multiplier function of the game, so approximately 14,000 Texas-sold tickets had their winnings multiplied.
Here are the numbers from Friday's Mega Millions (02.07.25)
04 24 32 41 55 Mega Ball 16 Megaplier x2
If you scanned those numbers and compared them to your ticket and it looks as if you have a winner your next click needs to be on the Official Texas Lottery website. Click here to verify your win officially. Or you can do the same with a visit to the Official Mega Millions website. Those sites also have prize redemption information. So you know where to go to get your cash.
Texas had two big winners from Friday night, in addition to the other 32,000-plus winners we mentioned earlier. Technically we could say a Texas-sold ticket earned the second largest prize awarded on Friday. The Texas Lottery confirmed that a ticket sold in Texas matched four of five and the Mega Ball with the Megaplier to earn a prize of $20,000.
Another Texas-sold ticket hit that same number match scenario but did not spend the extra dollar on the multiplier function of the game. They won $10,000. This shouldn't sound disappointing but it kind of is. Still, we are happy for all the winners. And we love responsible players.
The big ticket or to be truthful, big tickets for tonight, Saturday are Powerball with a jackpot of $133 million for the annuity and $61.7 million for the lump sum and Lotto Texas with Extra which is now sporting a top prize of $78.2 million. Those games will draw tonight, Saturday, February 8, 2025, at approximately 10 pm Texas time.
