It's never too early to start making plans for the weekend, and especially since it looks like our weather is going to look quite a bit different than usual. And in any normal year we would be catching beads and eating king cake to celebrate Mardi Gras weekend, so we need something fun and festive to take the sting out of not being able to celebrate carnival activities.

Our wonderful Louisiana Department of Tourism always has great resources for whatever it is you want to experience in our state, and they have a fun list of things going on this weekend. I've added in a few of my own favorites as well, so get out and enjoy yourself this weekend, fellow Louisianians!

  • Second Saturday Art Walk, Lafayette, February 13 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Enjoy art galleries, restaurants, studios and local boutiques in beautiful downtown Lafayette. And you can look for a handmade gift for your Valentine at The Wurst Biergarten Public Market
  • Krewe of House Floats, New Orleans area, through February 16th. This has really turned into the newest Mardi Gras tradition in the Big Easy, and really worth a trip to see the spectacular artistry of these homes. Check out the map if you want to go.
  • Swamp Flashlight Night, February 12, Baton Rouge. Bring the family to explore BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp at night, a rare treat that only happens a couple of times a year. Take an evening stroll through the lush trails, and enjoy the beauty of one of  Louisiana's most beautiful parks
  • Bossier Mardi Gras Night Market, February 13 from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Bossier City's open-air market offers free parking, free admission, and over 200 local vendors. Come get some Mardi Gras goodies or a treat for your Valentine
