UPDATE: I-10 East at Mile Marker 147 Has Reopened
UPDATE: 5:23 pm
The Louisiana Department of Transportation is reporting that I-10 has reopened at mile marker 147 after a fatality crash had caused them to close the interstate earlier in the day. Congestion is down to 1 mile and should be clearing soon. Please drive with care.
Traffic on I-10 eastbound is beginning to back up due to a crash near mile marker 147.
Authorities say that the crash does involve at least one fatality, so expect the interstate to be closed for a bit longer.
The crash is being reported near mile marker 147, which is prior to the Lobdell exit (Exit 151), and traffic is reportedly backed up to mile marker 142. Traffic is being diverted onto Louisiana Highway 77, which is the Grosse Tete exit at mile marker 139.
If you are traveling from the Lafayette area, you will probably be best served by taking I-49 north to Opelousas, and then take Highway 190 east to Baton Rouge.
