UPDATE: Deputies in Iberia Parish have arrested a 48-year-old New Iberia man in the stabbing murder of his wife.

According to sheriff's office spokesperson Ryan Turner, Brian Anthony Porter was charged with second-degree murder.

The victim, 45-year-old Penny Porter of New Iberia, was living with Porter at their home on West Santa Clara Street, Turner said.

Porter turned himself at the St. Martinville Police Department shortly after the stabbing. Turner said he will be brought back to Iberia Parish where he will be booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.

ORIGINAL: Authorities in New Iberia are investigating a homicide that occurred on West Santa Clara Street.

Police said they got the call at around 7:15 a.m. Capt. Ryan Turner with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office said a man stabbed a 45-year-old woman to death.

One person is in custody, and he was being questioned at the St. Martinville Police Department, Turner said.

Turner said he was waiting for more information from detectives, but he did say police were waiting to secure an arrest warrant for the man in custody.
