Breaking news for Southwest Louisiana and Lake Charles. Weather conditions have been deteriorating all afternoon and add the mixture of rain, sleet, and ice. The roadways in the Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana area have been jammed with traffic and several accidents.
The accidents on both I-10 and I-210 bridges have caused traffic to be backed up for miles in the Lake Charles, Westlake, and Sulphur areas. With the combination of rain, sleet, and now ice surfacing on the roadways, the Louisiana State Police along with Lake Charles Police, Westlake Police, and Sulphur Police have been working countless accidents on the bridges.
This has prompted law enforcement to announce that they will be closing the I-210 bridge in both the East and westbound due to the weather and ice on the bridge. The I-210 bridge will be closed until ice can be cleared.
Sgt. James Anderson advised us of the situation and posted this on The Louisiana State Police Troop D Facebook page:
As you can see, there are other bridges and roads closed as of now too. We may have to wait for the sun to come out tomorrow for the ice to melt and for the bridges to be able to open back up.
