Lafayette Police Chief Reggie Thomas and Lafayette Fire Department Spokesperson Alton Trahan visited the KPEL studio to invite the public to a Community Pep Rally to be held Monday (June 13) at Gethsemane Church of God In Christ.

Thomas said the Lafayette Police Department is teaming up with the Northside Viking Regiment Band and community organizers to host the event.

The pep rally gives the police department's community relations board to bring the community face-to-face with our city's police department. The rally will also introduce participants to a number of summertime youth activities.

Headlining the event will be UL Ragin' Cajuns Football Head Coach Mark Hudspeth and former NFL standouts Kevin and Trev Faulk.

Organizers are offering free food, prize giveaways and plenty of free activities.

Police will use the event to inform youth about the city's youth curfew which is being enforced this summer to deter a rash late-night crime, in particular, vehicle burglaries, that have plagued the city lately.

The rally will be at Gethsemane Church of God from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Gethsemane Church of God In Christ located at 701 E. Pinhook Rd.

Thomas said, if anyone needs more information on the event, they can call Getsemane Church of God In Christ at (337) 232-6958.
