Lafayette Police Investigating Fatal Crash on Evangeline Thruway

Officials with the Lafayette Police Department are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning on the Evangeline Thruway.

Senior Corporal Ashley Wood, spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department, says the crash involved an 18-wheeler and a sedan.

Wood says the driver of the sedan fled the crash scene at Evangeline Thruway and Chalmette.

That vehicle's passenger was the person who died at the scene of the crash.

Investigators with the Lafayette Police Department's Traffic Division continue to investigate what occurred with this crash.

Wood says they will release more details as the become available at a later time.
